Whats THAT?

The other day I got the funniest question about IDS that I have ever gotten. I was talking with one of my friends from high school about graduating soon and everything and when I told him I was IDS, instead of the normal "whats that" question, he asked "oh what profession is that?". I thought I figured out a way to answer all the questions about IDS, but that one stumped me. I just kind of chuckled to myself and did my best to explain.

The way I explain IDS to people is something like:
"I couldn't see myself committing to one specific major. I felt as if I needed more to describe my college education. IDS has given me the opportunity to combine three areas of study, and is teaching me how to bring those areas together cohesively into one focus."

Something along those lines is usually what I tell people and it seems to explain it well enough for them to grasp our major. After I've explained that first part then I will go into my different focus areas.

Wow! Your explaination of the IDS program should be pasted on the front of the UCF Interdisciplinary webpage! "I couldn't see myself committing to one specific major. I felt as if I needed more to describe my college education. IDS has given me the opportunity to combine three areas of study, and is teaching me how to bring those areas together cohesively into one focus."-John

That is about as good as of an explaination as I have heard. I look forward to hearing everyone elses take on how best to describe IDS.

    Cheers,
    Shelley
