Automation

I also think automation and the age of technology are obviously here to stay, but i think we all should be focused on how to evolve with it. On one hand, with all this new technology we lose the interactions with people on a day to day basis, like Shelley had mentioned. I always thought that automation was created to make thing easier for people, and personally talking to a computer generated voice always frustrates me at one point or another.
I plan on becoming a registered Dietician and I don't see that position being automated any times soon. I say this because with all the information on the internet you would think everyone would be eating healthy and staying physically fit. That's not the case. Sometimes you need a good one on one relationship with someone who will help motivate you to stay with a diet or a workout, and you cant get that from a computer.

  1. John,

You make a very good point. Humans don't get much 'motivation' from anything 'automated'. I definitely agree that our society is now and will remain for a number of years in need of one on one dieticians and weight trainers. As a matter of fact, we may soon need even more certified nutritionists.

  2. John,
I guess we could still come up with a very long list of careers that require a one on one relationship with the public. Hopefully this will not change for many years to come but with new technology coming out year after year it looks like we will continue to head in the opposite direction.
