I believe we can only look at Automation as a good thing since it is here whether we like it or not.
I do feel for those workers who are looking at layoffs due to being replaced by a machine. I am fortunate in that the field I am in now I don't believe I will ever face that problem. I hope to become more and more involved with student advising and I can't imagine the University ever using a computer alone or perhaps a robot to help students plan their future careers!

Kay,
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you that automation is here whether we like it or not...but I'm not sure how much I like it. I love the latest in communication capabilities, but I hate it that with those capabilties people no longer have to "relate" with one another person to person. With automation, personal contact is reduced significantly. Consider the aggrevation of "talking" to a computer on the phone! I personally hate it, and perfer a real person (that WAS someone's job). In the career field and job market department, computers and automation have forced society to transform, thus we have all become more automated. I too hope that Universities never rely entirely upon computers to assist students plan their future careers. I don't think I would be in this IDS program if not for a well-educated sincere "human" advisor on the other end of the telephone!
Cheers,
Shelley :)
I agree with the last comment you made Shelley. if it wasn't for my helpful human advisor I would have never found the IDS program.I think its safe to say we all hope that the people helping us with important decisions throughout college stay people!
