Analytical or Creative

In the Capstone course we are reading Daniel Pink's best-selling book, "A Whole New Mind". Pink asserts that the future will be ruled by 'right-brainers.' Have any of you read this book? If so, I would love to know what you think about it; if not, it is a great read and well worth your time (you'll probably have to anyway). In reference to the IDS program and your future careers, do you think you will be required to utilize the creative, emotional, storying telling right side of your brain? Or will it be primarily an analytical, logical, left-brained job? and in what ways?

As far as my future career is concerned, teaching social studies, I will be required to use a lot of my right brain. Teaching requires the ability to captivate an audience (sometimes unwilling to learn), have empathy for students, and be able to tell a great story of the history of our world or nation. I believe when teachers become too focused on the "tests" and admin portion of the job(left side of the brain activities) students are robbed of the opportunity to really LEARN. While those things are necessary, they shouln't be the focus! What do you see in your future?

Cheers,
Shelley
