In my future, once I become a nutritionist, I will have to use the analytical left side of my brain often. Calculations come along with nutrition and it is an important role in keeping a body in balance.
Although analytical actions are needed the right side of my brain will be the most important side of my brain in my role as a Dietician. I have to keep my clients interested in health and quality food in the same way Shelley would have to make teaching constantly interesting. The best way to teach I think is to get your student involved. Creativity would be the most important aspect of keeping food fun yet healthy for people. With only five healthy recipes you could never expect your clientele to stay interested. At the same time cheating in a diet is something everyone does, but when it happens you have to be empethitic to your patient and encourage them to continue on the right path.
Energy and emotion is also really important to the field as well. If you have no enthusiasm for fitness neither would any of your clients. Getting fit and staying healthy are not easy tasks and require a lot of time, effort, and emotion and it would be very important to let your clients feed off a Nutritionist who is high energy and excited about what is being accomplished.

John,
ReplyDeleteYour awareness for the necessity of using both sides of the brain is, in my opinion, spot on. Staying healthy with good food and proper excercise definitely takes a lot of emotion and effort. The task of encouraging people to do something that is not necessarily FUN is a huge challenge. It will take an enornmous amount of empathy and understanding to deal with individuals who have food related issues.
John,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great field you have chosen as your career. Keeping your clientele on the right path without losing them will be a real challenge. It does sound like you have the right attitude and commitment to do so.
