Student Advising as a career path would require a high degree of empathy towards the needs of students. On the other hand, you are in a position that requires analyzing what is required by the student to accel or better their chances of getting into a limited access program.
I will be required to use the left and right side of my brain but also know when and with whom the right time would be to either listen and relate or take a more firm and analytical approach. I would hope a combination of each will work out

I can definitely see where there would be a delicate balance between left and right brain in a student adviser position. You couldn't lean to far in either direction because you could miss something important for their future or lose their interest all together.
ReplyDeleteKay,
ReplyDeleteI think you're exactly right. I can see why it will be necessary for you to have the ability to balance the use of both sides of the brain. I think the important thing to remember, for all of us, is to make use of both sides. Remembering that although our world around us pushes us to focus on left brained activities, the right side contributes a kind of thinking that is imparative for a successful career.
